Early Fall Ribbon Combos for Crafters
Orange and black. No matter where or when we see it, the classic color pair immediately conjures up Halloween. But let’s go outside the pumpkin. Let’s freshen up your Halloween decor. Let’s open the door to other colors calling trick or treat on October 31st!
Here at the Cottage, we love the zesty vibrancy of puckish purple and slimy lime green. Together, alone or mixed with orange and black, they provide contrast and distinction making your projects stand out. A trick to combining colors and patterns is to use one dominant tone or style and mix it with lesser quantities of one or two others. Using equal amounts of three colors or patterns can work, but a more asymmetrical approach is generally more lively.
So pick one or two of the ribbons below to highlight in your designs, blending them in or as the focal point with trusted partners orange and black. You’ll delight all the ghosts, goblins, witches and warlocks lucky enough to experience your creations. (Humans are a bonus!)
Just click the pictures (or links) to see all the details for each ribbon and to purchase. Don’t forget, we have many more choices waiting for you in the shop’s Halloween craft room! And if it’s a bargain you’re looking for, check our sale page. Everyday there’s a varied selection!

A truck pulled up to the Cottage and brought loads of Christmas cheer, Halloween spookiness, games and sports, seafood, birthday greetings, bandanas and dragonflies, and a wide red, white and blue flag. When it left, the roaring exhaust flames could be seen down the street!
Spring brings thoughts of warm weather, being outside and hearing birds sing again. Maybe that’s why two of top weekly ribbons, “Bug’s Life” and “Peacock Feather” caught our visitors’ eyes. Let’s see what other items made up the rest of this week’s most viewed and liked!
It may have been March Madness for basketball, but our football lace ribbon print was a favorite. The 2 1/2″ width in a three yard length won the race this week, but also playing hard were the ten yard roll and the 1 1/2″ width in 3 yards and a ten yard roll.
Yes, it’s spring and all those critters are coming out of their winter hiding places. Dragonflies are joined by their friends, lady bugs, bees and beetles.
Ombre ribbons transition between colors, making them the go-to choice of ribbon flower crafters. The soft blending of colors in “Teal” evoke the ocean and coordinate nicely with “Peacock Feather”, Dark Teal “Anisha” and “Gelato” in Celadon. Teal ombre comes on 3 yard roll as well a cost effective 25 yard roll.
Never far from the top! Popular for sports themed projects and patriotic wreaths. Wired navy blue burlap, 2 1/2″ wide, is available in a 3 yard length, a 10 yard roll and as a 50 yard lot.
At the top of the weekly top five ribbons, this week: Gorgeous satin peacock feather print, 1 1/2″ wide, made in the US by Offray Lion Ribbon.
A couple of quick photos of the new ribbons that just arrived! We’ve been getting in the fall, Halloween, Christmas and winter holiday ribbons over the last few months as they’ve trickled in from our suppliers. Now, though, the next few weeks will be a sea of new ribbons and craft items. The ribbon companies have gotten their shipments in and large cartons are showing up on our doorstep regularly. Send a message if you see one you like but we haven’t gotten it listed yet! We’re working quickly, and putting in lots of hours, but it’s big job!
